On 28 June 1947 my Dad, Rowland Bott married Joan Evelyn Lydeard at St Bartholomew's Church, Blurton, Stoke-on-Trent.

The Happy Couple
On 28 June 2020 my elder sister, Valerie Bott, kindly told me about our mother's wedding outfit as seen in the photo above.

Val told me that our mother 'wore a royal blue velvet suit (still have the gilt buttons), blue felt beret & grey moc croc shoes. I remember the suit, stored in tissue, and the shoes were soft grey suede with moc croc rosettes. The jaunty beret had a stiff brim to sit firmly on the head. I think she has flower petals in her hair too, thrown like confetti?

I suggested the outfit would probably have been purchased with coupons and Val said: 'Must have been family sharing coupons I think!'

Val also said that 'Mum had a throwing out/selling off phase. The shoes outlived the suit in their box wrapped with tissue - if I could have got my feet into them I'd have run off with them [we both love shoes!]. Probably a chapel jumble sale. I know I rescued the suit buttons but don't know when.'

Wedding guests outside church porch
I love the above photo of the wedding guests, family and friends. I do not know who they all are but hope that one of the young women is Gladys Cooper, the bride's best friend. On the right of the porch someone should really have noticed, and perhaps moved, the ladder and plank!
The above photograph has Dad's best man far left, Reg Parrish, then Dad and his new wife. On the right is Roy Brooks Lydeard, the bride's elder brother who gave her away.
